Golf Day 2026
Article by Malcolm Trowbridge 10 May 2026
In our 6th year at Chigwell Golf Club, it was a 3rd win for Michael Nicholson!
On a rather overcast morning with a cold wind blowing, something we had not experienced before on our golf days, a total of 18 Old Loughtonians and guests took part in today’s competition.
After meeting at 8:30 for bacon rolls, tea and coffee, the players teed off in 4s and 3s from 10:00 am at 10-minute intervals under the guidance of our starter Clyde Rodney.
As well as the golf match we had a separate competition for “nearest the pin” on the short 6th hole and “longest drive“ on the par 5 18th hole. Both these were won by guests, Keith Leach and Adrian Doble respectively.
I, as usual, made my way to the Half Way House at about midday, by this time it had started raining and the wind was picking up, so players made the most of hot tea/coffee and soup before attacking the last 9 holes.
Back to the warmth of the Clubhouse, by this time the weather had improved and it had stopped raining. Our usual late lunch of ham, egg and chips was welcome.
We then moved onto the prize giving:
- OLGS Winner Michael Nicholson with 35 points.
- Runner up Bill Bennett with 28 points.
- Guest Winner Adrian Doble 37 points
- Runner Up Keith Leach with 36 points
My thanks to everybody who took part in today’s event.
Next year’s date is Monday 10th May 2027 at Chigwell Golf Club
