Minutes of the Committee Meeting held on Monday 15th May 2023 at 7.30pm at OLHC
Present
Andrew Gemmill, Michael Lane, Keith Pye, Malcolm Trowbridge, Humphrey Wheeler, Roland Brown, Stefan Sheriden, Andrew Kaye, David McAdams, Gary Bridger & Chris Plant
The President
David McAdams formally opened the meeting and welcomed everybody.
Silent Tribute
The Secretary was pleased to report that to his knowledge there had been no deaths since the last meeting.
Apologies for Absence
From Tony Mullins & Natalie Avvltoio who were both on holiday.
Correspondence Received
The Secretary had not received any correspondence
Minutes of the Last Committee Meeting
The Minutes had already been sent out & were proposed by Keith Pye & seconded by Gary Bridger and signed by The President as a true and accurate record.
Matters Arising
There were no matters arising.
Social Events
Outing to the Royal Courts of Justice & The Old Bailey
23 members and guests had attended this meeting and our Guide Tim Wood was very informative without to many dates and facts and figures. Lunch was taken at The Viaduct PH after which we visited the public galleries of the Old Bailey.
The next trip will be a conducted tour of St Paul’s Cathedral in the late summer.
The Clay Pigeon Shoot will take place on Monday 26th June 2023 at Essex Shooting School thanks to Richard Stirland & Philip. The event is being well supported
Treasurer’s Report
Humphrey Wheeler informed the meeting that he was please to report that the Old Bailey trip had a surplus of £72:00 and that the Golf Day had a surplus of £110:00. Subs had bought in £1,761:00 and that the Association was in a health postion with funds of £9,500:00
Membership
The Secretary informed the meeting that our membership Secretary had not been in touch, in spite of having family problems. It was suggested that the Secretary write to Michael Judd to inquire about his domestic problems.
At the same time the Secretary would approach Natalie Avvoltoio to inquire if she would be interested in becoming the Membership Secretary.
Magazine
In Tony’s absence the Secretary informed members that the first proof was out and the magazine was looking very interesting.
Golf Society Events
The golf match next year had been booked for Monday 13th May 2024 at Chigwell Golf Club
Website
David McAdams thanked Stefan Sheridan for his work in respect of the website. Stefan bought to the attention of the committee that since the February meeting, the following had been added to the website:-
- Committee Minutes 12 Sept 2022 & 13 February 2023
- Report of the Clay Pigeon Shooting.
- Report of the Golf Day
- Added The Loughtonian Magazine April 1969 & July 1969 ( kindly supplied by Richard Varty)
- School Prospectus from 1964 added to a post with the 1950’s & 1961 prospectuses . ( also supplied by Richard Varty)
- Old Bailey Outing
Hon. Archivist Report
Chris Plant reported that he had been having some male medical problems, which was hopefully now under control. The “Ticket” sign and poster of the railway seaside poster, presented to the President at the AGM had now been erected at North Weald Railway Station. Chris also produced his school ‘snake’ belt and blazer badge as well as an old RE Exam Paper. He passed one photo of the school during demolition to Stefan to be included on the website. His thanks went to Tony Mullins for converting two photos from some old super 8 cine film.
Any Other Business
Gary Bridger mentioned that Paul Daynes was now bedridden and not in good health.
The meeting was then informed that the Higgins Group were withdrawing their sponsorship as the main sponsor from the OLHC. It was therefore decided that the Secretary would write to the OLHC to confirm their long-standing occupation of The Old School Room and to reinstate their position as far as the £5,000:00 loan was concerned.
There being no further business the President reminded members of the date of the next committee meeting 25th September 2023 at the OLHC and closed the meeting at 8:35pm.
